Summer in South of France

2020, the weirdest and most unreal year I–and everybody else, obv–have experienced. It was almost impossible to travel due Covid-19 virus and restrictions, but luckily, we did manage to visit South of France at the end of July. The difficult part to planning a holiday were the differences in regional and national restrictions across countries. However, we were successful, and probably as the only non-French tourists where ever we went.

The drive

A week prior to our departure we could finally begin to plan our Corona friendly vacation. We decided to travel differently than we usually do. We booked tickets to Zürich from Copenhagen, rented a car and drove to our rented house in the village of Rochecolombe. A 7-8 hour drive (with stops). Looking back, it was actually a really long drive and would probably never travel this way again. Our initial plan was to stay in Switzerland, but inflated prices (again, because due to COVID) made it impossible to find any reasonably priced accommodation.

The view from our house

Although it was a long drive from Zürich to the village of Rochecolombe in South of France, it turned out to be absolutely worth it. We had to drive on a winding road up to the mountain where our house was located. When we finally arrived, we were absolutely amazed by our house and its surroundings. We chose this house on a bit of a whim, so the drive to the house was a bit anxious as we had no idea what to expect.

The view from our French house in Rochecolombe. I want to say that our kodaks does the view justice, but they really don’t. I will never forget this beautiful scenery.

Daytrip

A pit stop we had on one of our day trips. The advantages of renting a car when you have a need for spontaneity and adventure–there almost isn’t anywhere you can’t go. On this day, we ended up in a medieval village with the most beautiful cobblestoned architecture. The house on the picture looked almost built-in in the limestone and is actually a home–that someone lives in! Haha.

Cave exploring

There are SO many caves or grottos to visit in France. Especially near the area of Rochecolombe in South of France.

Amazing view from the side of the road

We found this stop on a crazy corner on the mountain road. We felt that we HAD to make stop to take in the incredible view. And it was absolutely stunning.

Ps. I love the cute finger in the corner

Riviére

This river was so long and leads to the famous Vallon-Pont-d’Arc.

This view. After half a day full of rain. No words needed.
